Let's say you have a reputation for anti-Americanism. Of course, you fit right in on that Don't Start The War thread. That's all that's about. A good chunk of those posters also opposed the US intervention in Afghanistan after 911. They predicted a horrible multi-year disaster as America marched into "the graveyard of great empires". And they claimed that action was unjustified, in spite of the attack on the WTC and the Pentagon. They expect us to respect their opinions now?

I really have a difficult time connecting that paragraph to the American/Brit joke...ignoring that ...

In complete honesty, I could not identify a single poster that was anti-American. I could identify many posters that only point out the negatives of US foreign policy....and I could identify many posters that only point out the positives of US foreign policy....that's how "balance" is achieved on these threads. On a broader scale, that seems to be how international diplomacy is conducted. I don't believe that either side has any expectation that their opinion will be respected by the opposite side. ....I would be surprised if TP has any expectation that his opinion will be respected by you. Nor do you have any expectation that TP respects your opinion.

I have no fundmental objection to using military force to enforce UN resolutions. But the Administration has screwed this up so badly, the continued path is a grand mistake.

There have been over 700 inspections...places where the US/UK say there are WMD storage and production. The inspectors come back with zip. We've tied Iraq and Al Qaeda starting with the famous meeting between Atta and Iraq...the one that never happened. We've sent to the UN documents to establish that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Niger. Forged documents...and characterized by the UN as "crude" fakes at that. What do you want to argue? That the US/UK intelligence services are gullible, incompetent, or knowingly passing on false information.

The Brits I have known, both here and and in Britain, don't fit the stereotype described in that piece.

Nor none that I know. I find them to be a damn cheery lot.

On the subject of credibility....

washingtonpost.com
In a report released Monday, U.N. weapons inspectors stated that Iraq had not declared the drone as required under two separate Security Council resolutions. [Insert: I recall that what Blix said was they should have declared them, but weren't required to if they were prototypes] The Bush administration promptly seized upon the statement to bolster its argument that Iraq had been flouting U.N. disarmament rules. John D. Negroponte, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, suggested that the drone could travel beyond U.N.-imposed limits, while Secretary of State Colin L. Powell said it could dispense biological and chemical weapons and "should be of concern to everybody."....

U.N. officials acknowledged today that the drone was mentioned in a semi-annual arms declaration that Iraq submitted in January. The U.N. officials also said they were not sure whether the aircraft could exceed range restrictions or carry prohibited weapons. One official privately cast doubt on those possibilities, noting that the drone did not appear to have guidance and cargo technology sophisticated enough to do those things.

Do you think these sort of events enhance our credibility?
