Much of what that maple leaf represents is less than ideal ... some absurd politics at times, more than a few demented politicians, and the populace, well - they say a people get the government they deserve .... actually both my nations have significant flaws, you'll find lists of them some places ... i've figured out the problem i think, it is that there are large numbers of human beings involved

Neither is burdened with empire however, nor with desire for empire .... yours is, with both, and this is unfortunate for it in many respects ... Kipling wrote about the reality of empire, 'go bind your sons to exile, to serve your captives' need' ... then, 'take up the white man's burden, in patience to abide, to veil the threat of terror, and check the show of pride'

More in the command structure of your average empire could stand to check the show of pride than do, usually .... noblesse oblige, it is said, but of course it only obliges the mythical noblesse, the ones in power are often pretty crude buggers ... it is a standard human failing to be seduced by power into fantasies of omnipotence, leading to that most heinous of crimes, unilateralism ... in México there is no reelection ever of the presidente, one term and out, period ... just an idea -g- ... cheers
