I remember dad telling us to get away from the God Damn sprayer because he vaguely understood it wasn't a good thing.

Of course they knew and most of them raised more than crops, they had chickens, hogs, horses and cattle. The way of the farm is long gone. Most of the land in Alberta and Saskatchewan is really only good for grazing anyway.
