Frankly, I don't see how those remarks were slanderous. A statement must be false to be slanderous. Generally, an opinion can't be slanderous because it's an opinion. But I'm not convinced that you have shown that the statement was false in the first place, if you take the actual statement and not the distortions of it made in the media.
