What I find incomprehensible is the growing sense that people are looking at this not as a nasty job that perhaps we must reluctantly do, but as something to be regarded with pleasure, delight, and anticipation. It comes out in the words: “let’s roll”, “let’s do it”, “let’s take ‘em out”. What seems uncomprehensible is that you seem to have so much compassion for the butcher of Bagdhad, but can't seem to find it in your heart to feel compassion for the thousands dying each month from starvation, the gassed prisoners, and the millions of refugees. Of course, you have a link that provides the numbers to support your statement up above. Also, the longer we wait, the more time our troops have to wait in the desert, giving Saddam more time to prepare his defenses, thus causing more American deaths, and exposing the troops to suicide bombers etc. The longer we wait, the longer a guy who has caused the death of millions lives in his palaces, stealing money, torturing more and more, and you wonder why would we want to end the utopic paradise you seem to think Iraq has become under Saddam. Have you read any of the recent reports on the state of Saddam's army? Why do you think D. Ray thinks it will be over in two weeks to a month? If it goes longer, its only because they are fighting on Iraqi turf and the cities are able to hold out. How many of you have ever been up to your elbows in human blood? Not the nice blood you get when you cut yourself around the edges, the stringy lumpy stuff you get when a human body comes up against a flying chunk of metal? How many have held a young man in their lap and felt the hiss and gurgle as his lungs filled up with blood? How many have tried to treat a multiple shrapnel case with a first aid kit? Smelled human bodies decomposing? Seen the dead stare in the eyes of children forced to see what no human should ever see? And your point is. That dying from war wounds is so much more inhumane that starving to death slowly over yrs, being tortured to death in prison, being forced to watch your children tortured so you will rat on someone, being forced to live in a refugee camp to yrs on end. At least this war will have a short time span, limiting the suffering; unless you and the French have your way, in which case, there will be another 10 yrs of suffering, before we decide to end it. I didn't realize you were a compassionate conservative. I have a hard time telling you guys from the regular kind. There are sometimes reasons why such things must be done; there is never a reason to feel good about it. And you think there is a good feel to let the people starve, and prisoners being tortured and gassed, all the while Saddam builds up his WMD, potentially to kill us. Why is it that you only have compassion for Saddam and his butchers, but not the innocents he is killing. Does Saddam offer them candy while he is killing them that makes it so more humane. At least the civilians we kill will be unintentional, Saddam kills his on purpose. I think you need to address your comments to the author of that post, not me. ted
