Karen,
I grew up in the Bronx. Kids who went to catholic schools in the 1940s heard these things or so they tell me. Maybe it was a 30s, 40s thing. You are not that old. Please research Father Coughlin and his pre-ww2 anti semitic crusade.
"We were taught love, not hate." Now you are.
Pope John XX11 is a personal hero of mine. My criticism pre-dates your experiences. It is not an attack on catholics, just on one Pat Buchanan. All religions have skeletons in the closet. mike

I'll second that one Karen....In my 12 years of Catholic education taught by some strict nuns, I don't recall any of this stuff. I know that the Pope cried for several days when he read the last Fatima letter (unrelated to Israel, just something I will always remember) and that anyone not Catholic was in real big danger of not being saved including those people called Protestants. There was one and only one true church. I think those fundamentalist, right wing evangelicals have taken over the last item now and they are now the oh so pro Israel types.

Strange that is so even though these "pro semitic" are convinced of the second coming in Israel and the Israeli Jews better see the light quickly when that happens or they will be in big trouble.

Regards,

Don

My elementary education was at the hands of ultra-traditional Jesuits. These tough, conservative guys not once mentioned Jews in a pejorative manner.

I never once heard anyone, no priest, nor nun, nor my family or friends EVER speak against Jewish people.

I'm 58, a practising Catholic all my life and have never ever heard of this anti-Jewish sentiment michael speaks of. It would appear paranoia and bigotry runs deep in places on this thread.
