RE: Centrino Launch.

I heard Intel CEO Barrett on NBR last night mention all the big PC names except one, HPQ. Dell had a full page ad in the SJ Mercury for a Centrino notebook... Since they contract out these things and slap on labels, why not participate for a small amount? Trying to squeeze Intel vs AMD? Seems a silly reason given all the free advertising they would get if Intel could say the two largest PC makers were using its parts.

BWTFDIK? All I know is HPQ and PFE are the only red on my screen today.

HP says early second-quarter revenues up 3 pct

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 13 (Reuters) - Computer and printer maker Hewlett-Packard Co (HPQ) on Thursday said that fiscal second-quarter revenues were up 3 percent in the first month of the period and stressed that an accounting revision disclosed Wednesday had left its cash position "strong and unchanged."

In a statement issued by HP Chief Financial Officer Bob Wayman, the company said it was responding to "market confusion" over its quarterly filing with securities regulators a day earlier.

HP shares were down almost 6 percent on Thursday after the company disclosed that it had lowered its reported cash flow from operations by 18 percent from $791 million to $647 million.

"We are reviewing our procedures for preparing preliminary statements," Wayman said. "The important takeaway for investors from both our earnings call and yesterday's 10-Q filing is that our gross cash position is strong and unchanged."

Wayman added: "One month into the company's second fiscal quarter, revenue for the combined company is up 3 percent year over year." HP's quarter began on Feb. 1.

CNET comparison

computers.cnet.com

Summary.. HPQ didn't get any free advertising from Intel and the released notebook doesn't blow the doors off any in the comparison matrix for value or overall rating.

It is nice to see Compaq is still using an IR port and advertises it on the list of features. :)
