We use two different words for a purpose.
You really should bone up on chaos and fractals, then you would know that many aspects of nature which appear to be completely different are just the same process at a different scale. You are just dividing the scale primarily according to time and perhaps simultaneously size since you generally never refer to the weather of the whole planet at the same time.
The long term large scale climate is also unpredictable but it is so at it's own scale. In many cases the scale is too long relative to human lifespans to become obvious the way a sudden cloudburst is, but the unpredictability along with the bounding attractors are there none the less. One only has to wonder why phenomina like 5000 year old frozen bodies would be appearing now.

A good example of the type of chaotic event that might cause major climate change in a relative short period of time is magnetic field reversal.
