"Americans, and Israelis, like to think of themselves as ethical people. But they also like to do some unethical things."

Whats new about that? Lets be relativists for a second and you will see both americans and israelis are more ethical. Your colonization definitions are good ones. Israel needs to give up the settlements but as you say the Palestinians need to give up the violence and accept what is in place now, sans settlements(with some mutually acceptable adjustments).
You are an out of the box thinker with your 51st state idea. And i consider myself and idea guy too.
I think more of a confederation of Israel, Jordan and PA with israel and jordan providing the military. Separate nations within the confederation with an economic prosperity zone backed by the USA. Perhaps a shared foreign policy to start at least on the ceremonial level. mike

You may disagree, but you are in a small minority (outside the U.S.) Colonization is when a strong tribe sends their people to live on a weak tribe's land, to permanently change the demographics

Hmm, and what did the world call it when Transjordan uprooted all Jewish neighborhoods and settlements from the West Bank in 1948, including Gush Etzion, Gilo and the Old City of Jerusalem?

This border dispute has been going on for some time, Jacob. The world is rather selective in its attention.
