He was not talking about Israel. He was talking about American Jews. "Inflammatory" in this context means making assertions or characterizations that may easily arouse hostility or contempt towards their subject. One may indeed speak of France or Germany in an inflammatory way. However, if one were to talk about Israel in that way, it is likelier to make a material difference to its survival as a nation, considering the importance of US support. There is not a lot of residual anti-Gallic or anti- German sentiment to fear in the United States, whereas Jews have historically suffered discrimination even in this country. Thus, I think it is a more serious matter when anti-semitic, and,in any case, we are all permitted our causes......
