Man, you guys get real quiet when we drop to lows, but one good day and everyone comes out of the woodwork with their ultra bullish scenarios.

There is nothing here that should be surprising, other than the speed of today's advance.

It's options expiration. This stuff happens. If you want the real story, that's what's going on in between options expiration.

Nobody's even mentioned that the exact same thing happened last month, nearly to the day. Sometimes you lose sight of what's right in front of you.

What might happen if the headlines over the weekend trumpet the exile of Saddam? How about a major gap up and another 300-500 points? Have you run into any chart readers lately (other then Wollie) who are bullish? How about all the "it's hip to be short" amateurs who infest the SI boards nowadays? Can you imagine the scramble?

There are a couple of hedge funds out there that can press a future like there is no tomorrow, and given the short disposition of so many hedges out there -- short the SPX, short the Spiders, short the QQQs, short the Semiconductor HOLDRs, and the Morgan Stanley Hi Tech 35s and whatever else walks, talks, wiggles or jiggles-- we could experience a vertical move.

Possibly a donnybrook for sure. Stranger things have happened. Wouldn't surprise me though.
