What's your time estimate for an occupation force without interference? What's your time estimate for an occupation force with interference?

PT.. I really wish you would think about these questions before you ask them... Troops will be rotated in and out of Iraq. A disarmed Iraq will not likely create a major reason for armored forces to remain, and those force who DO remain will be infantry, civil affairs, and military police (as well as extensive logistical and engineering assets)..

Maybe I'm being wishful, but I don't see occupying Iraq as being a hostile situation. Sure, there will be some terrorism, but I don't see US troops locked down in their barracks either.

The one thing American soldiers bring is a lot of money. And considering that the current annual wage of your average Iraqi is equal to the basic monthly pay of a E-1 private, you can bet they will have an economic interest in getting along with their new "goose" laying that "golden egg"..

Personally, I see Iraq as the keystone to creating dramatic change in the entire middle east similar to what the Marshal Plan did for post WWII Europe. I believe such a program of economic and political development is necessary, if not imperative.

I look at the demographics PT.. (I probably have rambled on about this here before).. 50% of the Saudi population is under the age of 18. The statistic demographic is similiar for Iraq. That equates to 1/2 of their populations who will be looking for a job, a spouse, and not able to get either of those, waging Jihad in order to make their "mark" upon the world (as all young adults seek to do)..

If we don't take drastic action to develop the region, we're going to see a increase in immigration to Western society by some very poor Arabs...
