Party time, There have been many doom/gloom scenarios.
They seem to ignore the oil sands and iol shale....possibly not evaluated at the time the book was writtin.

In additon, almost all oil files are buried tar sands, so as the price goes up the shallower wells will be mined.
The Canadian tar sand are oil fileds that are surfaced and oxidised, so there is still lots of oil left. Just going to keep going up in price. The governments are going to have to cut their taxes.
