After Waterloo Wellington saved Napoleon’s life (and several of his monuments in Paris) by refusing to allow the Prussians to execute him (and stationing British sentries to guard the monuments), whereas Napoleon blamed everything from Marshall Grouchy to the heavy rain (anything except for himself) for his defeat, and proved himself an exceptionally bad loser as he outright refused to answer questions on Wellington or accept that he may have been simply been ‘out-generaled’ on the day.
