Yeah, I've seen the Vets' opposition as well and it's a powerful argument to oppose the war(conservative doves). But the liberal hawks are growing too. I think many liberals are having a tough time rectifying Clinton's actions in Serbia vs Bush's actions in Iraq. They also feel that in the real world, more Iraqis will die from the sanctions than will die from war. The Economist made this argument 2 weeks ago in an excellent piece.
Not mentioned in the article, but I think there is a growing awareness among many liberals that President Carter(well intentioned) made a grave error in not standing up to radical Islam. I have felt this very strongly since 9-11. I watched an interview with some of the former hostages from the embassy who said that if we had defended ourselves then(perhaps died doing it) and set a tougher policy against the regimes that hate us, we would be sailing in different waters today. Iraq might never have invaded Kuwait...
I may be the only moderate hawk on this board, but there are others in the world. Hey, you are the closest to a moderate dove on this thread(and you are pretty dovish).
