are the Americans waking up in time? We seem to be seeing a rather substantial pushback from folks who were originally reluctant hawks, believing that the invasion's costs have already exceeded its benefits. Whether or not it has the least effect on the tiny but powerful ultra-hawk portion of this administration remains to be seen. The aspect that most bothers me is that we seem to have become resigned to each new revelation of untruthfulness or unethical behavior from our leaders as inevitable. We are steadily being conditioned to accept such a state of affairs as normal and seem to believe that we are powerless to stop it. The mainstream media is utterly cowed and the opposition party has lost what little backbone it had. Meanwhile, Joe and Thelma Sixpack know only what they see on Fox or CNN and have no reason to doubt this reporting as accurate. Rove has learned much from Goebbels' playbook and will be seen by history as one of the most cynical propagandists of all time. Other than this, everything is just peachy.
