I hope you waited to short as last Thursday marked a key reversal day on the averages. Had I gotten on and read your note I would have said to hold off but I only check by about once a week, or if I think my friends would like to know what general market trade I am making. Barring disaster, I see a pullback on the S&P somewhere into the 840s and then a nice "air war" rally up to S&P 890-900 range. I've taken profits, and am waiting for the pullback. Might buy back in or the rally to 900 or leave it safe in cash for the next easy money. I'd suggest you look to short SPY in the 900 range but look to cover if you see a run to 915 because that means 925/950 is around the corner. If it can't bust resistance on huge volume at all 3 of those levels, easy money will be made on the way down as well. Don't get me wrong here. The lows on the S&P of 768 (or whatever it is) will be broken. What we have is a very tradable rally but keep your finger on the trigger. This idea that the war fixes the damage that Clinton/Greenspan did during the orgy of the 90s is simply insane. Valuations are in the toilet and Tech stocks which acount for for 2/3 of GDP growth, are on the rocks and the tide is rising. Very centrist... even leftist people I work with here were disgusted by Tom Daschle's comments yesterday. In fact, they brought it up... I didn't. I was flabbergasted as they normally read right out of the handbook. One even called it giving comfort to the enemy. It seems that radical factions like Daschle and Kennedy have taken the Democrat party hostage. What a shame! If Democrats continue to allow the party to be hijacked and harpooned by such radicals, then Democrats will certainly be jettisoned during the next election. But make money along the way, right? One more thought: If the war is wildly successful (and I think it will be), the natural progression WILL BE to remove the cancer from the other 2 legs of the Axis of Evil. Our boys are over there anyway, so HELLO IRAN! What do you think will happen to the markets when that progression proceed as laid out over a year ago? The public thinks that it ends with Iraq, but it begins with Iraq. The public is WRONG. Sell the rally, but not yet ;) For one American, I am thankful to have leadership by integrity rather than polls. Our world will be safer when individuals like Blair and Bush put their careers aside to do what is right, rather than put their careers first and call Gallop to see what the next move should be. Keep in mind that Winston Churchill was roosted out of office. Any public collective mind has no appreciation without historical perspective.
