That's what I thought, but the Spanish American War was actually in 1898. Remember the Maine?

So in your world we would not ever have become a global power and only concerned with the americas(monroe doctrine). I see your point but it is not relevant. It is over 100 years later and we are what we are. Its what we will become that is most important. mike

Jefferson, the Best American, would be appalled at what we have become.

Jefferson? The President that purchased Louisiana, against his own Constructionist ideals?

Hardly.

Of all the territory we took in the Spanish American War, only Guam and Puerto Rico remain. Puerto Rico gets to vote whether to stay with us. They don't seem to thrilled at leaving. And all the territories we acquired in the Pacific in WWII have negotiated treaties of mutual association. We let them go, just like we let Cuba and the Phillipines go, and would gladly be done of Puerto Rico if it chose. We could have had all of Western Europe and the Japanese Empire, instead we gave them a hand and let them rule themselves.

There's been more States added to the Republic since 1895 than protectorates, Jacob...
