Although personally, I think it is a bad idea to develop private cars in China's big cities. Too much pollution. But I also understand that automobile is One very important part for economic development. Dilemma, isn't it.

A dilemma yes it is.... look at Mexico City... it holds the questionable honor of being the largest city in the world (Tokyo - Yokohama, its rival, are actually 2 cities)

the pollution there is something else... your eyes actually itch... (and there are other issues that really make you believe that if it did not exist, Stephen King would create it)

But the automobile is not a bad idea... it needs to be improved...

The point is... Shanghai does not have the number of cars MC (or many other Western cities) have... and the key is pollution control, so... China needs improved performance automobiles low emission (or better emissions free)

Internal combustion engines are becoming more efficient in burning the fuel/air mixture to leave less residues and exhaust systems are supposed to capture what is left (i do not think it will ever be a totally clean by-product)

The important fact that will come into play is what alternatives sources of power will there be ? Toyota is working in a combination motor electric/internal combustion that would ease somehow the amount of emissions....

The Chinese market simply puts another dimension to the research of these cars.... in terms of potential development, production costs and potencial market.

To this day... the image in both Shanghai and Hangzhou of all those HUNDREDS of byciclists.... pedaling around the streets of the respective cities haunts me.... imagine all those guys driving instead.... say the Mini-Coopers (now owned by BMW) with a perfected electric motor or a combination thereof....

Remember "The Italian Job" you could NOT turn these cars over even if you tried..

btw... They are talking about re-making a new Italian Job movie....
