The telling thing about the French response to Blair's proposal was that they didn't even wait for Iraq's reaction before they rejected it. Perhaps they thought waiting would make them look like they were only backing Iraq, but jumping the gun (no pun intended) really shows they are less interested in a peaceful resolution than in protecting their interests in Iraq at all costs and simply countering US and British influence.

You'd think France would have figured out by now that they've been on the short end of the balance of powers since 1870. Taking sides with Iraq against the US and Britain is no way to recover what French diplomatic ineptness lost 133 years ago. ;-)
