Ah, on the Pakistani air lift story, we don't know if it was a false story. No one has seriously denied it in print. The fact that the biggies didn't follow up doesn't mean anything.

Let's wait five years for the big books about Afghan to come out before we make these claims. Dana Priest has some low level stuff on this in her book but since it wasn't the focus, it's tangential. Jane Meyers also had some low level stuff about it in her New Yorker piece on John Walker Lindh. So it's still out there.

This is not the only example of Hersh's approaching senile dementia but the most recent and probably the most egregious. There are lots others, but I don't want to get started. He's not worth the effort.

Ah, good, that explains why you made this post then.

>Interesting story--Pulitzer material. But there's a problem: Why did no other media report the story? If true, it's an enormous piece of news.>

New York Times did report it. Also, B. Raman of www.saag.org has mentioned it several times in his articles.

You sure made a hash of that story. Hersh didn't claim that the US airlifted anybody out, only that they acquiesced to the Pakistan doing so. Primarily to get out Pakistani nationals. Given the known relationship between Pakistan's ISI and the Taliban, it seemed plausible enough, if unproven. That story was nothing compared to the Debka howlers routinely posted here. newyorker.com
