Define LOTS..... I talked to a young woman on the phone tonight who was in Dallas....She's about 25, and thinks "Mr. Bush is terrific".... and her friends do as well. Is really angry at "Mr. Clinton for shooting his mouth off again today, and especially about the President"...and thinks "Mr. Carter was good at making houses for Habitat...but NOTHING else...." That was her opinion, and that of the friends she has in Dallas and other parts of Texas she said.

And of course, I agreed with her... :>)

Hurray for the Dixie Chicks! Glad they had the guts to speak out.

*****

In her apology, Maines said, "As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect."

Message 18705298

While I don't really care about the remark she/they made, I don't think it's indicative of any pronounced intellectual capacity, nor do I suffer celebrities who are called or choose to weigh in on everything from nutrition to politics terribly well. It's yet another hallmark of a weakening society, but we are what we are.

Now. That said, I'd venture that the real test of intestinal fortitude where unpopular speech is concerned comes when and if flak is received.

Given the above retraction, what's your assessment of her/their "guts"?

>Lots in Texas are ashamed of Bush too! >

What the hell would some Michigan yahoo know about Texans? Nadda. His approval rating here is overwhelmingly positive. You'd better lay off sipping the anti-freeze.
