ild >He has to make this war and win. If the war is very successful he might get a chance in 2004. Do you think I’m wrong?

I have just come upon this interview with Hans Blix which is very interesting and answers, or partially answers, many of the outstanding questions.

mtv.com

Blix makes it quite clear that Saddam would not have "disarmed", certainly as much as he has, if it were not for the presence of US military. In fact, he says the Iraqi co-operation has been excellent and he makes it clear that the reason for this is that they are frightened. I think Bush can be pleased about this --- he is getting the desired results and without spilling blood. Of course, this will not please the chicken-hawks/neocons who clearly have another agenda which was stated in their Project for the New American Century.

Blix makes it clear that Bush has been emphatic that he (Bush) seeks war only as a last resort and that, so far as far as he (Blix) is concerned, there is no reason to make one. In the circumstances, one has to believe that most of the war talk and bluster is designed to shake-out Saddam and not actually to make war. (I hope)

Blix also makes the point that the chemical and biological WMDs are rather weapons of self-destruction which is what I was trying to say. In the circumstances, they are not really to be feared.

As far as GWB seeking re-election is concerned, I have to say that I know nothing about US politics and what is required for someone to be elected etc. As far as the economy is concerned, I think he was unfortunate in having the bubble pop in his face. Whoever came into power when he did, presumably Al Gore, would have suffered the same experience.

PS. I am pleased to hear that you, too, are anti-war.
