The whole world was with us on Desert Storm -- likewise after 9/11 -- it was virtually universal and with the smallest conceivable exceptions -- basically just the terrorists themselves. It took an incredible posture of arrogance to turn-off the whole world -- but Bush and his team managed to pull it off, without gaining a thing in the bargain. We could have pushed to disarm Saddam and built a grand coalition -- but the ideological a$$holes around Bush wanted the glory of "regime change", and that is an arrogance that reminded the world of the worst features of America, amplified by the rhetoric out of Washington (you are with us or against us, axis of evil, etc.)
