Well, realistically, I think a consumer boycott of French products will/would hurt American retailers more and sooner than it would the French themselves. And I don't think our government is going to try to nickel and dime France or try to inflict death by a thousand cuts.

But I think it's a stretch to suggest the Brits stand to suffer some backlash here in this nation for standing beside us. There is absolutely no political or public rumbling in that direction whatsoever.

First Carl...You believe in polls evidently. The last one I saw (AOL) showed 65% and 67% of over 575,000++ people (only one vote allowed by their system) in favor of taking Saddam out, and in favor of not having to wait for the UN...

(funny....I just had a finger slip and typed UMmmmmmmm...--Fits, doesn't it)

AOL is largely mom and pop (the red areas of the election map) These folks purchase commodities, and some in large amounts.

So, NO, I don't accept your number of 50% of Americans "don't support a war"..... I think your 50% is the same 50% that didn't want Bush, and will try to do everything in their power to find someone to go out there and protest....even if it means paying them.

How many Anti-Saddam signs do you see there?

If the protesters are "anti-war" BUT don't have a sign that says "anti-Saddam MASS MURDERER" then they are just Anti-Bush and/or Anti-American. IMO.

And yes, here in the heart of liberal NW land, I hear people on either political party thought, say they are retreating on anything French. AND more importantly, saying so to the merchants who carry French goods and services.
