Hi bbm; Re: "... constantly quoting Goebbels and Hitler to make a pointless point. It isn't necessary, it's a cheap rhetorical device, it's old news, it doesn't add anything, and it's below the level of what everybody expects from this thread."

But at the same time, I'm going to guess that you probably don't object to people making comparisons of Hitler and Saddam, or talking about appeasement and Chamberlain.

I agree with you, but in the more full sense. The world is too complicated to be analyzed by sharp little sound bites and facile comparisons with badly learnt history are the worst sort.

My point was a bit deeper than the cheap shot you read it as. My point was that this administration over-simplifies the facts and uses Orwellian doublespeak and has no hesitation to lie whenever it suites its needs. And while no politician is an angel and they all play dirty to take the office. When if comes to matters of War and State policies that have very strong ramifications, an decent government would not do so. It would present its case clearly without resorting to trickery (or at least minimize the trickery). In the past whenever governments have relied so heavily on propaganda to make their case, the results have been extremely tragic. To me, this similarity in approach raises great mistrust of the administration. I do not think of them as being Nazis. But I think of them to be just as dishonest an power hungry.
