llmarinen, A friend of mine 'captured' one of the satellites in the old days.
In the old days they had unsecured FM uplinks. You needed a 15 foot dish and about 200 watts of power to take over a transponder in those days. The strogest signal rules. Now it is encrypted.
Caused quite a flap in 1984-5. He put up some naughty stuff and some funny political stuff.
His business was NFL uplinks. Drive to a game and take the video feed and squirt it to the satellite for wages. He had a trailer and a transmitter and a portable folding 20 foot dish, the good old days..
Now it has all moved to higher frequencies and smaller dishes and fiber networks etc etc.
