llmarinen. I do not watch much TV dues to the very high ad ratios. It seems as it 30% of the time is ads.
I have seen all the movies. I rarely see a movie twice....my recollections are too strong for there to be any surprises. So I will not buy satellite or PPV or even local cable premium channels.

I am British, born in London UK in 1939, and moved to Toronto in 1948, so I am quite Canadianised. few memories of UK radio/TV.
You pay an annual licence fee for TV in the UK and the BBC has no advertising. There are some commercial channels.
In general the BBC shows more interesting stuff than the commercial channels, which show lots of US stuff and a little Ozzie and canadian stuff.
But I am not that aware of the UK mix on TV. All I know is it looks a lot better than here. 625 lines and better color than USA/Canada. TV looks far sharper and better than here.
The FCC insisted that color TV be compatible with the 1940 black and white US standard and it still is. HDTV is mandated to be total in 2008. if 2008 ever comes?
"HDTV TO BE STANDARD BY 2008:
As high definition television comes into being, the Federal
Communications Commission says that initially, programs will be
broadcast using both HDTV signals and standard means. That will
allow current sets to be used while HDTV sets remained expensive
and out of reach to the average viewer. The commission said that
by 2008, however, HDTV would be the standard.
