Why? He deserves what he got (life in solitary), but why death? The penalty for spying for a friendly country is never death- heck, the penalty for spying for an enemy isn't usually death.

Pollard wasn't even supposed to get life, but:
1. He violated some rules between the trial and the sentencing.

2. His lawyer made some errors which will prevent him from ever appealing.

The guy was a spy, a pompous a**hole, and he can enjoy the rest of his life alone in prison.
