Many real world problems are not so easily partitioned as those which run on the systems you cite. We used to say you should use "the right tool for the job." Apparently you disagree.

I don't know of any large installation running SAP on windows, or Dell boxes with Linux.

I don't really care what hardware runs the enterprise software that I work with, but the fact is, not much is running on these little boxes you say are taking over the world. When I was at Dell they had this directive where every datamart had to be migrated to Dell servers. These are the datamarts, pretty small stuff considering. All fine and good, except it took 2 hours to build a simple cube (no exaggeration). I'm just tired of this constant drumbeat, it seems like the people that profess the windows/linux domination of the world have almost NO practical experience.
