I pointed out that the events surrounding 9/11, the followup Afghanastan War and now the War with Iraq, together, effectively have kept what otherwise might have become a bigger issue into not becoming one at all. If you go back and research what Republicans strategists were thinking around the time of Bush's [s]election, they were very concerned that because he lost the popular vote he'd be viewed poorly. Indeed, back then, that was a valid concern. As it turned out, it became worse than what they feared, as not only did he lose the popular vote, but he was effectively handed the presidency by the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court. But the aftermath effects of this never saw the light of day due to, first, the honeymoon period; and, second, the tragedy of 9/11 and what's followed.
