That's a differential of [6.02-5.86]deaths/1,000 population or 0.16 deaths/1,000 Iraq has a population of 24 million 24,000 * 0.16 = 3,840 deaths In other words, if Iraq had the same death rate as Saudi Arabia, they would have 3,840 fewer deaths. Ok....your turn, you get to explain why 65,000 Iraqis die each year as a result of misuse...yada yada. jttmab

Iraq: cia.gov 6.02 deaths/1,000 population (2002 est.) Let's take another country in the mid-east. Which one? Israel: cia.gov 6.21 deaths/1,000 population (2002 est.) Goodness! The death rate/1,000 is higher in Israel than it is in Iraq! That's a differential of [6.21-6.02]=0.18 deaths/thousand Israel with a population of 6,029,529 (July 2002 est.) ... 6,029 * 0.18 = 1,085 In other words. If Israel was fortunate enough to have the death rate/1,000 that Iraq has Israel would have 1,085 fewer deaths. US: cia.gov 8.7 deaths/1,000 population (2002 est.) Wow! The death rate/1,000 is a lot higher in the United States than it is in Iraq! That's a differential of [8.7-6.02]=2.68 deaths/thousand The United States with a population of 280,562,489 (July 2002 est.) ... 280,562 * 2.68 = 751,906 In other words. If the United States was fortunate enough to have the death rate/1,000 that Iraq has, the United States would have 751,906 fewer deaths. Maybe would should look at that differently....what if Iraq had the death rate/1,000 that the US has... Similar computation...differential is 2.68/per thousand; Iraq has 24,001,816 (July 2002 est.) 24,001 * 2.68 = 64,322 In other words, if Iraq had the same death rate/1,000 as the United States, Iraq would have 64,322 more deaths. Wait a minute! That's virtually 65,000 people...coincidentally your number! Your turn: Explain to me 65,000 Iraqis die each year as a result of the misuse of the UN sanctioned oil revneus by Saddam.
