Old enough to remember Nixon.
I'm not just talking about the UN. I saying that Bush just doesn't seem to have the knack for diplomacy. Nixon (and Clinton) would never have gotten themselves backed into this corner. They would have gauged the situation, determined that the UN was either inconsequential or that a vote would fail, and went ahead without seeming to be, well, bumbling.

What Bush doesn't seem to 'get' is that, with the USSR gone, what many non-Americans now fear the most is a unilateral US, arbitrarily picking and choosing fights to protect our interests. Our bullying attitude has put off a lot of moderate nations and people, and are driving them into the French anti-American camp.

If Blair loses his job over this, no leader will stand up with us for fear of their own people.
