Condor, all the bad feelings and loss of respect from France and Germany and the other countries could only have been avoided by the capitulation of the US to their point of view. THEY could have avoided the bad feelings had THEY been more reasonable. THEY chose to send the UN down the slippery slope that did in the League of Nations. Failure to act would have permitted a two-bit despot to thumb his nose at the UN and remain a danger to the world. Let them resent us and our allies for acting. We shall resent them for their misdeeds as well. We shall see who the ultimate winners and losers are.
