Taxes have to come from somewhere (unless you believe that deficits aren't a bad thing), and if they don't come from dividends, another tax will have to be raised.

Deficits can be a bad thing, but there are times when deficit spending is appropriate and helpful.

The argument that "taxes have to come from somewhere" seems to fly in the face of the notion that tax policy can be used to control the economy, which has been a fundamental economic premise since 1960.

It matters.

-Z,
I think you stumbled upon a difference between liberals and conservatives.

Liberals want to raise taxes to fund a broken system that keeps getting worse.

Conservatives would like to see some effort made to fix the system.

Do you think we should slow down the waste or keep pouring more money into it to make up for the waste?

Steve

Frankly, I am in favor of a VAT type tax. We should tax consumption, rather than production. No deductions, but rather a payback allowance for people under a certain income level. Then, most of the taxes would be paid by businesses, as each time a product moves through a production cycle, or is sold, it will be taxed. The gov. would get its money, without all of these ridiculous tax laws, and people would really feel it, as businesses would pay most of the tax, before the consumer sees it.
