What a Maaarroooonnn!!! Think about this X (if you can free up that lone brain cell)... Why did Bin Laden begin attacking the US in the first place?? Yep.. because US troops were being stationed on Saudi soil IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN CONTAINMENT of Saddam... The sanctions, and the fact that American forces were required to remain in Saudi Arabia to deter Saddam, were THE PRIMARY REASONS 9/11 CAME ABOUT.... 12 years of being required to defend them from someone you claim is not a threat... So we remove the threat.. remove US forces from Saudi Arabia (and move them to Iraq), and rebuild that SECULAR SOCIETY to become a counter-balance to the rising tide of Fundamentalism in Saudi Arabia. Either way, militantcy is militancy... It's going to happen one way or another.. But few Arabs are going to sign up to defend Saddam.. And if the US follows through on its promise to reconstruct Iraq (it had better) and create a Palestinian state, then they'll lack any excuse for becoming militant.. In fact, both the destruction of Saddam's regime, AND creating a VIABLE and democratic Palestinian state, go hand in hand.. And both will likely be seen, by any but the most militant Arab, as the US finally keeping its promise and acting in an egalitarian way.. You think we're tough on Saddam.. I can betcha Bush will be just as tough on Sharon afterward.. And there will be some serious political tussles between the US and Israel as they are required to give up most of the west bank and probably all of their settlements there. Hawk
