Oil companies make deals with Arab governments on a percentage basis. In the good old colonial days oil companies could get 50-50 and people like JP Getty got stinking rich. Nowadays it's like 90-10 so they really have to work for their riches.

UNLESS you control the new Iraq government, then they have no choice but to give you 50-50 or some great deal. What's the diff? Hundreds of billions over a decade or two. Go Texas, and Bush will no doubt get a piece of it when he retires. So will Cheney and all the other cronies.

Why would we spend 100+ Billion dollars to wage war so that we could recapture a small fraction of that in oil?

The 100+ billion is your and my money. The "fraction" of that they make in profits belongs to the oil companies. So they get you and I worked up about monsters under the bed and make off with your and my money.
