Thanks for posting this analysis piece from the NYTimes by David Sanger. Saves me giving up one of my posts later on.

Sanger's essay is the voice, in my view, of the centrist critique of Bush's Iraq escapade. With the exception of the Hoffman quote which argues the Bush folk never wanted UNSC approval anyway.

But back to Sanger. I think one can begin to see the clear markings of the centrist critique now. Zakaria, Friedman, Nye, some of the Times staff, perhaps much of the foreign policy Clinton staff now out of the halls of power. Its essence is that this was all bad diplomacy, that sacrificing the UN and NATO was not worth the price of dealing with Iraq right now.

Then there are other critiques a bit further removed from the Bush place. Hoffman strikes me as in that neighborhood. Which has lots of variants. Will be more than fascinating to watch this develop.
