Re: When dealing with other countries, I would like world approval- not because of them, but because of the safety for us. When we go it alone, we tend to blow it. I like the safety check on our actions the UN represents. This war is ill considered and rash- and I hope we don't suffer blowback from it for the rest of our lives, but I suspect we will.

You hit the nail on the head.... Although countries that have opposed a war on Iraq --overtly or covertly-- might not be able to prevent the US from starting it, they sure can prevent the US from winning it! The US is repeating the same blunder it did on the diplomatic front: singling out one country and lashing out at the diplomatic scapegoat. However, just as France is NOT isolated in her opposition to war, Iraq will NOT be isolated in her impending war against the US... Think about how convenient it's gonna be for all the countries that got a score to settle with the US --Libya, Syria, Iran, Afghanistan's rogue warlords, North Korea, but even Russia... all of them will seize the "Iraqi window of opportunity". All ensuing terrorist attacks against US interests will be pinned on Saddam Hussein anyway.

Gus
