Assuming that it will cost billions to deal with Iraq for the next couple of years at least, where will the money come from? There's a possible answer in today's news that the Justice Department is suing the tobacco companies for fraud, asking for $289 billion compensation. Not a bad idea, since there aren't any tobacco companies in Texas . . . Initially Ashcroft was against pursuing any claims against the tobacco companies, but now the government needs extra money, and there still isn't any provision for Iraq in the current budget proposal.
