Haim, Why the heck does Saddam idolize Saladin? Saladin was a Kurd and he hates Kurds. And though Saladin did capture Jerusalem from the Crusaders, he won and lost Acre and Ascalon and could never take Tyre from Conrad of Montserrat. His battles with Richard The Lion-Hearted were, at best, stalemates. The Plantagenet King won the battles, but Saladin was able to prevent him from nearing Jerusalem.

It's hard to imagine what Richard might have accomplished had not the French been invading Richard's holdings in Anjou, Acquitaine and Normandy while he was gone, forcing him to make a quick peace and head back home, where the German Holy Roman Emperor arrested him. Wait a second, I see what he likes about Saladin. The coalition. <g>

An interesting strategy. What befuddles me is why can't the rest
of the world see what this insane bastard might do to save his
regime and of course his own ass.
I liked Ted David, of CNBC,
this morning as he read a communique
re. France: France would come into the war if Iraq uses chemical
warfare-Ted's comment-"Presumably on our side".
