Of course, you're not going to agree with me, because you don't see any way that the government could possibly accomplish more than private enterprise.

Yes, well, you may find occasional examples of the government getting "economies of scale" -- but they're rare. Taken as a whole, the federal government, without question, wastes money at a faster rate than any other entity in existence. When the federal government becomes fiscally responsible such that we get fair value for our money, I'd be glad to pay taxes. Until that time, I will resent every nickel that is taken from me.

Z, from your prior post:

<I'm a firm believer in the concepts of "economies of scale," as well as "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.">

If you took a good look at the federal government, you'll find a ton of inefficiencies, pork-barrel projects, and cooked books that would make Enron look downright honest.

Or let me put it this way. Do you believe in your tax dollars going to farmers paid not to farm? Do you believe in funding a Ponzi scheme that takes from the young and gives to the old, contrary to what they teach you in school? If you had $200 to donate, do you think the federal government could use that money to feed the homeless more efficiently than your local soup kitchen?
