The French have a good Space program I think we are working together on it.

Not really. The Ariannes have been exploding regularly. The most reecent blow-up took place late last year. It's the reason the French and the EU don't have their own version of GPS. The satellites keep going up in smoke.

The American spirit has always been torn about its imperialism, sometimes ashamed, sometimes defensive, rarely, if ever triumphant. To go that route is, as someone said in another post, to seriously endanger the American soul. I agree with that sentiment.
