I think the White House (and some in Congress) suggested that Daschle's speech was partisan, which is a totally appropriate response. There's no "repression" here. They're just pointing out that they think that Daschle was politicking, and that they think americans should take Daschle with a big grain of salt. Everybody here (Daschle included) is within their rights.
