He avoided the nightmare scenario of losing so much Labour support that he was carried by the Conservatives. I think the Labour dissent numbers were about the same as the previous vote and that is at least a small victory.

Now it's all execution. Results not rhetoric from here out.

John, I just read the NYTimes online piece on it. It is here: nytimes.com

It looks like a "tweener," in between. He lost more laborites than the last vote, 139 against 122 last time, but opponents had hoped for a total of more than 150 which they failed to get. The final vote was 412 to 149. He also lost two more "minor" cabinet figures but kept Clare Short, who had earlier threatened to resign. He did so, according to the Times, by promising her a role in "the humanitarian rebuilding of post-war Iraq."
