I like intelligent humor that doesn't need to belittle a class of people. Oddly enough there is quite a lot of humor like that out there. I'm sure there are a lot of people who get off on making fun of other people. You want to be one of those people, that's your choice. I don't want to be one of those people. When the French thing passes there will still be people who need to make fun of other people- they may be mocking Jews, or Pakistanis by then, but my outrage will always be useful. As you so kindly illustrate, bigots will always be with us, and they'll always be busy justifying their "humor". So I'll be here to say that debasing humor aimed at whole populations isn't funny (I don't think it's ok to make fun of people with disabilities either- I know there are people on SI who do think that's ok, but I've always spoken out against that, as well. And I will continue to do that.)
