Daschle has a job to do. There are at least 40% of Americans who are very uneasy about this war, and 55% or so who are very uneasy about Bush. He wants to keep that uneasiness in peoples' memory. It's just politics.

On the other hand Daschle is right. Never has a president blundered (or avoided) diplomacy so badly going into a war. It was either a real failure or a deliberate move to avoid the UN because Bush really wants to go it alone with the UK. The other allies we have are minimal countries.

That said, like most people, I support the war's success as it starts. I hate Saddam too. But more than that I want to see not a single US casualty, and it over with quickly.
