And does that give the U.S. the right to overthrow those democratic governments? The U.S. certainly wasn't interested in strengthening any of those democracies. We didn't take actions to strengthen democratic institutions (no matter how flawed) in any of those countries. In fact, we did the opposite, we supported coups that disposed of democratic governments and installed dictators.

So, Allende might have miscalulated and moved to fast to implement his Socialist agenda. Couldn't the U.S. and rightwing just wait until the next election and have Allende disposed of in a democratic manner? If the Chilean people disliked Allende's policies so much, they would have voted him out. That's how a democracy is suppossed to work.
