"The Diplomatic Debacle"

The Left is saying that the debacle was that of the Bush Administration. History will prove that instead, it was the serious miscalculations by the French and their lesser allies, the Germans, Belgians and Russians, that created the diplomatic debacle. And the more that Daschle and the Democratic Left try to pin it on Bush, the deeper in the quicksand they will sink. Its real hard for them to eat the words they spoke in 1998. Probably a lot more bitter than crow.

The Diplomatic Debacle

News analysis: France and Germany are left to wonder: Did they carry things too far?

BlandbutM,...

I have always dreaded the prospect of passing under the gaze of another country's customs official. Previously, I had attributed this to a particularly unpleasant experience with a California fruit fly inspection back in 58. My paranoia was later reinforced by an openly hostile border official just north of Detroit. <sigh>

Then just when I had worked up the nerve to make a quick day trip to Tijuana, a well traveled Maoist forced me to read "The Ugly American." Naturally, I had to cancel the trip for fear of being blown up by a suicide bomber as soon as I got beyond sight of the border guards.

But now it's quite clear that I will never set foot in Louisiana again. ...The risk of waking up as gator bait in some bayou, or forced to eat chicken entrails in some Hoodoo cult ritual is simply too great to chance without adequate defensive forces.

When they say: "See Paris and die" ...I know they aren't kidding. <Hoo><Hoo>

How did France manage to reject British revisions to its draft resolution last week hours before Iraq did?

The diplomatic faux pas that broke France's back.

Great article. Thanks for posting it here.
