Don't you think it would have been much easier to just cut clean from Judaism the way Islam did if the goal was to be distinct from day one? An anti-Jew apostle does not mean an effort to create a distinct religion. How do you know that he just wasn't a bigot? Or that he wasn't conveying his feelings towards the community that killed his idle? Any social movement has several dimensions and plenty of eddies. To say that the Church was anti-Jewish so as to create a distinct religion means that (a) the religion was not distinct enough to begin with. And (b) it was not the opinions of few people but a concerted effort to do so for the purpose of creating the distinction. I can agree to both premises but not if you go back 2000 years.

Let's drop the subject. This is probably the kind of thing that needs face to face debate in Starbucks.
